Future:

  • In conjunction with Metro in Motion, Le Club Optimist, and the RCMP, we are looking at designing and implementing a volunteer run Safe Cycling motivational presentation that will be available to schools, faith groups, private companies, non-profits and other community associations.
  • We have begun coordinating a community gardening project in conjunction with S.E.R.V.E., the non-profit group working with special needs children. Members will be able to grow food for their personal use as well as for the 2011 Earth Day event buffet.
  • A big, thank-you party for all our Earth Day volunteers and sponsors will be held in May at La Teraz Centre for Incredible Events.
  • We want to know how many people adopted eco-friendly habits as a result of the media campaign and content of the 2010 Greater Moncton Earth Day Event. To find out, we will conduct a survey in October/November. The results will be published on our website early in 2011.
  • We will be working with Earth Day Canada to help other groups organize fun educational activities and events.
  • We will continue to work hard at producing the annual Greater Moncton Earth Day Event.
  • If you would like to join in the fun, get involved or seek our assistance with a particular eco-friendly/community oriented project, please contact us at MonctonEarthDay@gmail.com / 506 383 9707

Past:

2007
  •  We produced our first major Earth Day Event. The event received extensive media coverage both during the event and during the weeks preceding the event. Close to 400 hundred people attended the 4hr. long gathering, which consisted of a presentation on Proactive Solutions to Climate Change, the Green Expo trade show with over 30 exhibitors, a photo exhibit by Marc Blanchard, live Jazz Music, words of wisdom from Mi’kmaq elders, and a beautiful buffet.
  • In the late Fall of 2007, we spearheaded and oversaw the collaborative Greater Moncton Area’s International Day of Climate Action
2008
  • We partnered with the Southeast Chapter of the Conservation Council of NB and expanded the Greater Moncton Earth Day Event into a three day festival that included a Benefit Concert that raised $1500.00 for a Clean Energy Education Campaign. The festival also raised an additional $3500.00 for the Southeast Chapter of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. The festival received extensive media coverage and was attended by 750 people over the three-day period.
  • In the fall of 2008 we helped to organize and promote the International Day of Climate Action.
2009
  • We produced one of the largest Earth Day Celebrations in the country. Over 2000 people visited with over 60 exhibitors at the Green Expo (make into a link), enjoyed beautiful art at the Youth Eco Art Exhibit (make into a link), were blessed with a Mi’kmaq, first nation, ceremony and multi faith benedictions, enjoyed live music, a delicious buffet, and were entertained by Mimi, the Clown, and magician, Kevin Donelle. The public also got to shake their hips with Hula Hoop instructor Kathryn Brideau, got their faces painted and sketched by Pierrette Boudreau and Atlan Wang. And finally, people also had the opportunity to learn about the economic benefits of wind energy, solar water heating, and other solar energy breakthroughs from Professor Yves Gagnon, Earnest Thompson, and Kevin Gallant. If that’s not enough, close to $3000.00 in prizes were distributed to the youth that participated in the Eco-Art Exhibit and to the general public in the form of door prizes.
  • In 2009 we also helped to promote the monthly Critical Mass, which eventually became the Courteous Mass monthly bike ride as well as the Pedal for the Planet
  • And finally we helped organize and promote the 350.org, the 2009 Greater Moncton International Day of Climate Action, and the Conservation Council of NB’s Moncton 100 Mile Dinner Fund Raiser.
